$7.8k awarded to help youth sports teams get on the road to victory
The Rural Travel Fund was established by Sport New Zealand to encourage rural participation in sports. The fund can subsidise travel to local sporting competitions for rural teams of tamariki and rangatahi aged between 5 and 18 years.
While funding’s not available for individual players, it can be a real help to schools and sporting clubs who want to give their junior teams the opportunity to play in regular competitions away from their home court or turf.
In the latest round of funding, which covers the winter sports period, a total of $7,830 was awarded across six schools and clubs. The next round opens on 30 September for summer sports.
