There’s still time to apply for support for your waste-busting idea
“If you’ve got a bright idea that’ll reduce waste in Stratford district, and you need a bit of help to get it up and running, come and kōrero with us,” says Peter McNamara, Stratford District Council’s (SDC) Water and Waste Education Officer.
“Through our Waste Levy Fund, we’ve got $25,000 available annually to support projects that can help our community eliminate waste and reuse materials. And we want to give it all away.”
SDC’s Waste Levy Fund is open until 31 January 2024. Applications can be made by individuals, community organisations, and not-for-profits, and the project must be based in and benefit the Stratford district.
Projects can be of any size, as long as the funding requested doesn’t exceed the $25,000 available.
Established in February 2023, this is the second time the fund has been open for applications. Successful projects from last year include the development of composting systems and a community garden at local schools, reusable nappy education and recycling, and the establishment of a regular free repair café.
“We’ve been inspired by what our fund recipients have been able to achieve in just one year,” says Peter.
“Applications close soon, but you’ve still got time. I can talk you through the process, answer questions, and give you a hand with your application if you need it.”
