Stratford to celebrate Youth Week with free pool party and events
Stratford District Youth Council (SDYC) is gearing up to celebrate Youth Week 2023 with exciting free and low-cost activities for tamariki and rangatahi in their district.
Stratford’s week-long celebrations will include a Craft and Pizza session, Pink Silent Disco, and the popular SDYC Pool Party with free entry to Wai o Rua – Stratford Aquatic Centre from 1 to 3pm on Saturday 20 May.
During Youth Week, SDYC will also support Pink Shirt Day on 19 May. An initiative to stop bullying by promoting kindness and inclusion.
SDYC Co-Chair Victoria Payne, says Youth Week is a great chance for young people to come together and enjoy what Stratford offers.
“I’m most excited about the free pool party. It’s the first time we’ve hosted this event at the new Wai o Rua – Stratford Aquatic Centre. And for some kids, it’ll be their first time in the new pool. We’ll have the inflatables out and the music pumping. It’ll be awesome,” says Victoria.
Youth Week runs from 15 to 21 May 2023. During this time, young people from all over the country will host events to celebrate the talent, energy, and contribution of Aotearoa’s youth.
Zoe Pitcher, SDYC Co-Chair, says this year’s theme of “Leaders of tomorrow? Leaders for today!” is a good reminder that rangatahi don’t need to wait until they’re older to have their voices heard.
“Young people have legitimate views and concerns. Part of our role in the Youth Council is to advocate for the rangatahi in our community. If anyone is interested in getting involved or has a community issue they want to be heard on, we’ll be at the Youth Week events. Come and chat,” says Zoe.
