Become a ‘Select’ dog owner and reduce your registration fees
Apply before 30 April 2023 at Stratford.govt.nz/DogOwners
Most dog owners in Stratford are classed as ‘Good Owners’. If you’re in this group, and you live in an urban area, you can apply to become a ‘Select Owner’ and reduce the cost of your future dog registration fees!
To become a ‘Select Owner’ you need to:
- Be already classed as a ‘Good Owner’. You’re likely to be in this category if you’ve not had a dog impounded on more than one occasion, and not received a written warning, infringement notice, or been convicted for dog offences. If you’re not sure what your classification is, call us on 06 765 6099.
- Have an adequate fenced area for your pooch
- Provide proof that your dog is neutered
- Live in an urban area
If you’ve ticked these boxes, fill in and return your application form by 30 April 2023.
You can download an application form online here or get one from the council’s Service Centre at 63 Miranda Street.
Being a responsible dog owner
Dog ownership is a big responsibility. Not only do you have to make sure your fur baby is happy, healthy, and secure, but you also need to register your dog with the council before they reach the age of 3 months.
Registration helps to link your dog back to you if you’re ever separated, and pays for local doggie-related services, resolving dog complaints, providing care and shelter to impounded dogs, and even items like poop bags.
Helpful tip:
We discount all dog registration fees if they’re paid before 1 August! Find out more at Stratford.govt.nz/DogRego
