Cyclone Gabrielle: Facilities return to normal Wednesday 15 February
After a wild night and day across the region, Cyclone Gabrielle appears to have let the Stratford district off lightly in comparison to other areas of Taranaki.
Stratford District Council Chief Executive Sven Hanne says, “power outages across the district and a number of fallen trees in the eastern hill country appears to be the extent of the cyclone’s impact on our communities so far. But with Metservice extending the Red warning to 10pm this evening, it’s important to stay vigilant and follow Taranaki Civil Defence Emergency Management updates.”
“People staying home and off the roads has been a huge help to emergency services and to our teams monitoring the roading network. It’s been good to see our community take the weather warnings seriously and prepare for the worst, let’s keep that up and look after each other,” says Mr Hanne.
From Wednesday 15 February, all Council services will be back to normal operating hours, including:
- Stratford Transfer Station
- Wai o Rua – Stratford Aquatic Centre
- Stratford Library and Visitor Information Centre
