Update on damage caused from severe weather event
Heavy rain followed by strong winds as a result of ex-tropical cyclone Dovi caused a number of issues across the district over the weekend. This included fallen trees and powerlines, surface flooding, power outages and wastewater overflows.
As of 2pm on Monday 14 February, the following roads remain closed:
- Puniwhakau Road
- Mangaehu Road between McBrides access road and Puniwhakau Road
- Akama Road
These roads will be open once clearance has been given by Powerco.
Our water services team have been busy attending localised wastewater issues across Stratford.
A power outage caused water pressure issues at the Midhirst Water Treatment Plant on Sunday afternoon and residents were asked to conserve water until power was restored. Power was back on around 5.30pm in the afternoon on Sunday 13 February.
Warnings signs at our popular swimming spots on Pātea River have been in place since last week, after the Waitangi Day weekend weather event. These remain in place, and people are encouraged to check the Taranaki Regional Council website for the latest water quality updates and to check if it’s safe to swim.
