Brief closures at Stratford Bike Park while final touches completed
We're excited to be starting some of the outstanding work at the Stratford Bike Park in the coming weeks.
The work we’ve been waiting on includes concrete artwork which is being applied to parts of the education cycle track and the asphalt sealing of the pump track. The latest alert level restrictions as well as a run of bad weather had meant a delay to getting these final touches complete.
Some of the concrete artwork is being completed on 25 and 26 November 2021 and this means part of the education cycle track will be off limits for play on those days.
We'll update our website and Facebook page with other closure dates when they are finalised as this work is weather dependent.
The artwork has been designed by Wharehoka Smith and it tells a story that centres around the importance of whānau and community support - watch this space!
Visitors to the bike park will already be familiar with part of this work which is featured on the new toilet block.
The completion date for the pump track is determined by the availability of specialist contractors based in Auckland. They’ve been unable to get to Taranaki during recent Alert Levels and won’t be able to finish the asphalt sealing of our pump track until the new year. We had really hoped to have this track pumping for our community by Christmas, but unfortunately, it’s just not possible.
While we appreciate people are keen to use the track, we don't appreciate those few people who have decided to break in to the construction area in recent weeks. Using the track while it's still under construction will result in the need for expensive remedial work before the track can be finished. Please keep out of that area while we wait for the final sealing to be done.
We’re looking forward to having the park fully completed and holding an official ‘ribbon cutting’ ceremony and community open day to celebrate together.
