Registration opens for Stratford district’s 2023 Scarecrow Trail!
Registration for the unique and much-loved Scarecrow Trail is open until Wednesday 18 October. There are four categories with prizes up for grabs - Pre-school, School, Business, and Open, with an additional prize across all categories for the best use of recycled materials.
The trail will officially begin on 27 October and runs until 12 November 2023, alongside the Taranaki Garden Festival, Fringe Garden Festival, and Taranaki Arts Trail. Those new to the event can expect Stratford district to turn into one of Taranaki’s largest scavenger hunts, with prizes available for scarecrow seekers.
Chade Julie, Acting Director of Community Services, says the trail is fun for the whole family; from creating the Scarecrows to finding them scattered throughout the district.
“Our community goes all-out, and the results are awesome to see. Last year, we had 86 scarecrows, including a scarecrow R2D2, an octopus in a bath, and creative traditional scarecrows too. We can’t wait to see what people come up with,” says Chade.
“Give it a go this year and have something to really crow about,” says Chade. “But if you need more encouragement, we’ve got lots of awesome prizes available, thanks to the support of Stratford New World, Fulton Hogan, and the Stratford Business Association.”
Registration forms are available online at Stratford.govt.nz/Scarecrow and at the Stratford Library and Visitor Information Centre, and Wai o Rua – Stratford Aquatic Centre.
