Recycle your child car seats with reduced fees
We're offering 60% off child car seat recycling fees, at an event aimed at reducing the number of car seats going to landfill.
The child car seat recycling event will be held at the Stratford War Memorial Centre on Sunday 28 August, from 10.00am - 2.30pm.
The first 50 Stratford District residents who bring a child’s car seat in for recycling will receive the discount, paying only $10 for each seat recycled.
Peter McNamara, SDC Waste and Water Education Officer, says the Council wants to make it simple and inexpensive for people to clear some clutter from their homes, while reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.
“We can recycle any damaged or expired seats for just $10. If you’re not sure whether a seat has expired, bring it in and we can show you how to check it,” says Peter.
75 percent of a child’s car seat can be recycled or repurposed and over 100,000 car seats expire in New Zealand each year. “Bringing in your child’s old car seat for recycling, might seem like a small thing, but it can have a big impact on the amount of waste that’s going to landfill,” says Peter.
Seats are recycled through the SeatSmart child car seat recycling programme. Payment for recycling car seats is by cash only.
