Christmas in Prospero Place

Add to favourites

With the installation of Stratford’s 8.8 metre outdoor Christmas tree the festive season has well and truly hit Prospero Place. The square will be filled with festive cheer this December with a raft of activities happening from 1 December.

The official lighting up of the Christmas tree on Thursday 1 December will be held from 4 – 5pm. The ceremony will include comments from the Mayor, free train rides, carols from the Stratford Mountain Singers and a few sweet treats for the kids.

The first of December will also be the launch date for the Great Stratford i-SITE Treasure Hunt. Children under 13 years of age are invited to call into the Stratford i-SITE and collect their entry form to participate each week. Participants will then go out into Prospero Place to find elves and presents and go in the draw to win prizes. Prize draws will take place every Wednesday on the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The Stratford Business Association’s Santa’s Cave will be open from 11 December in the Percy Thomson building. The opening will coincide with a market day that is taking place before Stratford’s annual Christmas parade at 1pm. Business Association secretary Lauren Darrah says, “We are looking forward to welcoming Santa to town prior to the Christmas Parade to launch the Cave. It will give all the kids plenty of time to call in and give him their wish lists and will add to the excitement of the day for them.”

The Stratford District Youth Council is adding to the activity by having outdoor games and music in Prospero Place on Saturday mornings from 10am – 12noon. Games are free to play and include giant noughts and crosses and giant connect four. If you’re interested in performing on a Saturday morning contact Liesl on (06) 765 6099.
