The 'Connector' bus service is here! The new Hawera to New Plymouth bus service starts on Monday 24 February and will make four return trips daily, Monday – Friday.
Stratford residents will be able to be picked up from the Stratford Health Centre, Miranda Street bus stop and Midhirst bus stop on request.
Chief Executive Sue Davidson says, "It is good to see this service now available to our residents' young people, workers and the elderly. The frequency of the service gives residents good options and for those working, training or attending medical appointments in New Plymouth."
Fare and timetable details are available at www.taranakibus.info. Concession fares are available for senior citizens, beneficiaries, Access card holders and non-WITT tertiary students. There are also discounts for all passengers using Connector Smart Cards, which are available from the Stratford i-Site from Thursday 20 February.
Council has been working with all the Taranaki Councils, WITT and Taranaki District Health Board for the past two years to bring this service to Stratford residents. Council identified the lack of access to transport to and from New Plymouth as a major barrier to employment and training for residents. Council's Long Term Plan provided some funding towards this two year trial.
The Connector bus service replaces the one day a week Thursday service that will run for the final day on Thursday 27 February.
