The festive season is almost upon us and with Christmas just around the corner the Stratford District Council is once again asking residents to donate a gift for those less fortunate.
The Mayoral Christmas Tree Gift Appeal is a long held tradition in Stratford encouraging local residents to donate new or pre-loved toys and gifts in good condition to the Council in the first two weeks of December.
Community Development Advisor Leanne Richards says that thanks to a generous donation from a local collector, the council already has a substantial supply of stuffed toys, but is always in need of gifts for teenaged boys and older people.
Mayor Neil Volzke says that Christmas can be a challenging time for many individuals and families and the appeal helps to alleviate that.
“I am always impressed by the generosity of the Stratford community and I’m sure this year’s appeal will be another example of that,” says Mayor Volzke.
To ensure the gifts find a good home the Council encourages confidential nominations of families and individuals in need.
Gifts will be accepted up until Tuesday 19 December.
