The inaugural Stratford Scarecrow Trail opened on Friday 27 October.
The trail is in and around Stratford and also ventures along the State Highway 43 the Forgotten World Highway all the way past Whangamomona to Marco School.
Director Community Services Kate Whareaitu said the community has really supported the initiative, creating 55 scarecrows that make up the trail. “The trail is an additional draw card to the garden festivals that run during this time and given the response we’re looking for the trail to become an annual event.”
To take part in the scarecrow hunt, get your map from the Stratford i-SITE in Prospero Place and match as many of the scarecrows as you can with the name of the flower that is attached to them. To go in the draw to win one of three Stratford Business Association vouchers drop your entry form into the Stratford i-SITE before 3pm Monday 6 November. Vote for your favourite scarecrow too.
The winners of the five categories will be announced on Wednesday 8 November. The are five categories Pre-School, Primary, High Schools, Business, and Open.
The Stratford Scarecrow Trail runs from Friday 27 October – 5 November 2017.
Special thanks to sponsors Rural Women New Zealand Central Area, Stratford Hospice Shop, In Stitches, Mitre 10, Yates, Stratford ITM, Seales Winslow, Donghs, and Stratford Business Association.
